These are my last official photos from St. Louis *tear*.
Things have been absolutely insane here in New York, but I am loving it! I am finally getting settled into my job, apartment, and the city in general. I even take the subway everyday unless the 6 is down and I have to hail a cab (that’s only happened once by the way)! As I start taking photos in the city, I will start revealing more about my new life in the city.
Until then – let’s talk about this flannel I love. I actually need more of these because they are so comfortable and to me they are the epitome of fall. So many people are shocked this bad boy is from Target! I had no idea they had so many great flannels there until my old co-worker had one is almost every color. I really like how this fits as more of a huger instead of a classic, boxy fit.
I genuinely do apologize for the fact that I have really fallen behind on my blogging, but after this month I promise I will get back on schedule. My new job is extremely demanding and I am still trying to find the balance with everything, but I will get it together soon, don’t you worry. Happy Sunday! See you sooner than later.
Today is my first day of work and my oh my did it take a lot to get to this point. Everyone assumes getting a job in New York can’t be that hard, right? You’re wrong. I had recruiters and others literally tell me it would be near impossible to get a job in NYC because I don’t live here and don’t have any experience in fashion. They were right when they said I didn’t have any experience in fashion and didn’t live in NYC, but that didn’t stop me. There are so many things about New York and this process that people never tell you, it’s crazy! Like paying over $2,000 in real-estate broker fees, yes. I will get to that once I do my apartment tour.
I just want to give little snippets of everything happening in my life each blog post, but promise to keep it brief. Also because I don’t have wifi in my apartment yet and I feel like Starbucks is ready to kick me out (they keep looking at me).
Just to touch on this outfit, since that’s more than likely why you’re here. This vest is life. I love Old Navy and their vests, but you have to grab them while they are hot. If you don’t, they are gone…almost forever it feels. I am not sure how warm this piece is yet considering I took these photos in 80 degree weather, but I’ll let you know.
But, today was my first day of work, and I am tried and hungry (just being real). It’s almost 9pm EST here in NYC and I still need to take the subway home and finish up some work before another big day tomorrow. Thanks for following along in this crazy journey I call life!
I love an all black outfit, it just looks so clean to me. These vests were in style last year and are still relevant this fall season. Besides being in all back, these booties are my favorite. I waited a few months into the fall/winter season of last year to buy them because I knew Nordstrom would eventually put them on sale. Nordstrom no longer carries them, but I tagged a few similar options located above. (I honestly just put these Gianmarco shoes on the list for fun, because I think they are to die. If I weren’t broke as a a joke from this move, I would totally buy them.)
I am sad because the blog posts for this week are the last official ones of me being in St. Louis. I will definitely miss home, my friends, and family, but I am extremely excited about this next step in my career. Tomorrow I start my first day as a personal stylist at Trunk Club and I couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities. Trunk Club is a pretty new company that started in Chicago back in ’09. They have offices in Chicago, Dallas, Washington DC, L.A., and now New York!
What do they do?
They are a personal styling service for men (and soon women). Most men don’t have the time or energy to shop online or in store, so they have a stylist like me do the work for them! I take the time to know my clients on a personal level learning their wants, needs, daily activities, lifestyle, etc. I either schedule an appointment with them here in our New York office or send a trunk with clothes I think will work for them right to their door step. They have ten days to decide what they would like to keep or give back with free shipping both ways. The only thing he/she pays for are the clothes they keep. There is no monthly subscription or membership fees, it’s really that simple. So simple some people think it’s a scam, but it’s not.
Nordstrom acquired Trunk Club over a year ago and their success continues to grow as more people learn about Trunk Club and their services. The clothes sold by Trunk Club are those that are most similar to what you would find at a Nordstrom (obviously), Neiman Marcus, Saks, and those alike. These are definitely high quality, amazing clothes that make all the guys I style look great!
This will definitely be hard work, but I can’t wait to see how everything turns out. With that being said, if you’re interested in trying Trunk Club with me as your stylist, click here!
In addition to this, be sure to stay on the look out for this weeks blog posts. I’ll give the REAL about moving to New York and all the things no one ever tells you! Happy Sunday friends.
It’s only right wearing an all Pitaya outfit with locally owned shoes for a shoot in the Delmar Loop. For those who haven’t read my earlier blog posts featuring Pitaya, they are (in my opinion) the most successful retail boutique in the Loop with an amazing price points. I am really excited about the video Adrienne and I did, isn’t she talented? If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel here.
Anyways, these are seriously the most comfortable jeans I own because they are stretchy. Fun fact:I hate wearing jeans. I tolerate them and sadly have to cope with the fact that that is what my wardrobe will mainly consist of come this fall and winter. But, I want you to know I am NOT happy about it. The issue I have is some jeans that are too stretchy start to look bad after you wear them a few times. These are perfect though, I should have bought them in ever color and style they had. I didn’t think that deep into it at the time though.
Please leave your comments below, on YouTube, Facebook and on my Instagram page. I really love hearing your opinions both positive and negative.
This is my favorite dress for transitioning to fall. Not only is it made with some of the best, thick, material, but it’s comfortable and guess what it has? POCKETS! Though I’m wearing this with opened toe sandals, I plan to pair it with tights and boots when the weather gets colder.
I found this dress at T. J. Maxx for only $25 and it’s Kate Spade Saturday. I know everyone says T.J. Maxx is hit or miss, but you honestly have to keep your eyes open. My coworker told me she never finds anything when she shops there. I told her ‘You can’t go to T.J. Maxx looking for something extremely specific, because you will never find it (never say never, I know)’.
Another thing – if something doesn’t fit you right, don’t be afraid to get it altered. This dress was a little big in the waist, so I had it tailored. If you really like an item of clothing but it doesn’t fit you quite right, it’s always a smart investment.
Did you know that Sandal comes back on tonight? I AM SO EXCITED! Thank God for Hulu and ABCGo, because I definitely can’t afford cable once I move to the big apple. Follow along with my commentary on twitter gladiators @viviejohnson, see you tonight!
Cancun was definitely one of the best ways to end the summer, ever! I highly suggest everyone take a trip to Mexico no matter where it is. I love planning trips and getting everything together for my friends and I.
Brittany and I both had the same flight and met up with Lauren on our transfer in Chicago. When we landed, we met up with Kelli and Jacqueline, then headed to our resort! Right when we arrived, our resort ME Cancun knew exactly what we needed.
Tequila shots, obviously! As if that wasn’t enough, they upgraded both our rooms to suites so we could be right next to each other. The rooms were absolutely gorgeous, it really helped kick off the trip in the right way. My high school friends and I don’t travel together often, so we were really excited about what was to come for this trip.
We wasted absolutely no time changing into our bathing suits and heading down to the adults only pool. The majority of the resort is catered to adults, so we didn’t see many kids around which was nice. Not saying I don’t like kids, but it’s nice to relax in an adult’s only environment while on vacation.
As I’ve spoken about in previous blog posts, I love making new friends while on vacation. They always seem to make the trip better and more enjoyable. We met a bachelor party from New York which excited Jacqueline and I since I’m moving there shortly. We enjoyed the infinity pool, warm water, and serene environment, it was amazing. After spending time at the pool, we ate dinner at the buffet over drinks and nice conversation. You would think buffet style at an all-inclusive resort would be below par, but we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and overall service. The ME really knows what their doing when it comes to customer service and putting the customer first.
After dinner, Kelli and I went downstairs to the on site club with our new friends and enjoyed the night. We had such a great time!
The next morning, we went to yet another buffet and I must say it was delicious. Breakfast is my favorite meal, so I was excited for the food options and mimosas.
After breakfast, we were invited on the bachelor boys’ yacht for a day party. Mainly excited because we booked a party boat but it fell through and got cancelled. This was better because it was with people we “knew” and it was obviously going to be a ton of fun!
Let’s be real, we all know I didn’t waste anytime taking as many photos as possible. I mean, when will I be in Cancun next? I had to take full advantage.
We swam in the gorgeous water, got tons of sun, drank, and honestly had an amazing time. The boat was one of the best parts of the trip!
Look at that water!
Bestie beach bums at their best We got off the boat for around an hour to eat lunch at Playa Mujeres while on the boat.
After getting on the boat and heading back to our resort, we took a shower and got ready for dinner. We forgot to make a dinner reservation at one the restaurants, so we opted for the buffet once again which was delicious. The had different items every night, so the variety was greatly appreciated. Once again, our resort was amazing and helped us with tickets and transportation for a club downtown called Palazzo. We were only five minutes away from downtown Cancun which was nice. When we showed up, this establishment was like a well-oiled machine. Everyone had a job to do and they moved QUICK! We were promptly directed to our table which included all-inclusive drinks! We danced the night away and really enjoyed the neon light shows and performances.
We woke up Sunday morning and did our routine breakfast with mimosas at the buffet. Our resort had a huge Labor Day weekend party at the pool! We honestly spent a lot of time meeting people, having fun, eating, and swimming. We even met another group of new friends who invited us to go jet skiing with them. I’ve never been before but it was a ton of fun. Of course I decide to go with someone who doesn’t know how to swim, so I was pretty nervous because I’ve never had to save anyone before. Luckily, we didn’t fall off, so overall it was a success!
My best friend Jacqueline thinks I’m a super model, so we took a ton of photos in this black bathing suit. Be ready for her and I collaborating when I move to New York! Yay!
After a long day at the beach and pool, we were honestly so exhausted. We went to dinner and passed out afterwards. We had every intention of ‘hitting the town’, but it didn’t happen. I had some of the best sleep of my life though, not going to lie.
After a long slumber, a few of us woke up at the crack of dawn to watch the sun rise on the beach. This is something I’ve always wanted to do and am so glad we were able to make it happen!
After watching the sun rise, we went back to sleep for a bit. Woke up and guess what we did? Went to breakfast and had mimosas, I am sure you guessed it. We decided we would chill the whole day and hang out by the pool and beach. As if the ME hadn’t have been good enough to us, they upgraded us to the cabana suite’s on top of hooking us up with a free cabana by the pool! It was awesome and we were so grateful.
Since it was our last day, I wanted cliché vacation shots so I could post #SquadGoals on social media. I think they came out pretty nice!
The Me Cancun is honestly one of the best resorts I’ve ever stayed at. I highly suggest staying there if you’re ever in Cancun. They honestly took such great care of us, the service was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.
After a nice long day at the beach, we went back and got changed for dinner. We made a reservation at the sushi restaurant and celebrated Brittany’s 25th birthday. We thought wearing all white for labor day was appropriate considering it was the last real day of summer.
Just giving you a heads up that this outfit will eventually be on the blog, so don’t be surprised when you see it again
Once dinner was over, we packed up our items and got some rest before our 6am flight Tuesday morning. Overall, I would say the trip was definitely a success! It was so nice catching up and seeing my hometown friends in paradise. I can’t wait until our next adventure!
Cancun was ammmmmaaaazzzinnnnggg! I know I am so late with all of this, but I will do a full review of the trip later this week. I’ve been crazy busy wrapping up things at work and getting ready for this move. Oh yeah, I’ve accepted a men’s styling job at a company called Trunk Club in New York. I am super nervous but excited at the same time. It will be challenging, fun, and totally insane (and expensive). We will talk more about that this week though, back to the bathing suit.
I know summer is over, but vacation season is year round. I love white on dark skin, I think it provides a nice pop! I am really picky when it comes to bathing suits and I must say, I love love love Asos! They have so many types, kinds, shapes, and colors of suits to choose from at a variety of price points. I unfortunately won’t be attending anymore extravagant trips for a while since I’m moving to the most expensive city in this country. BUT, only for a short while, don’t you worry.
Can’t wait to catch up with you all this week! I’ll be spilling all the tea of my move, new job, and exploring life with my new job in the big apple!
Missouri Style Week is the first real fashion show I’ve attended and it was honor to be invited. Cillah Hall cofounder of Gazelle magazine put the whole thing on and I was honestly so impressed. The show began in Columbia Missouri during the week then ended in St. Louis over the weekend.
Right when I showed up there were a ton of people walking about Westport and their energy was great. I was little tired previous to coming, but the good vibes immediately woke me up. I stopped by the vendors shown above to learn more about their businesses. Everyone had such interesting stories and concepts, I highly suggest you click on the links above to learn more!
Now, to the real reason I was here, the designs. Most of the designers with a few exceptions were from the St. Louis area and attend Universities around the city. The last design above I love because I would probably wear it in real life. All the looks were so unique and innovative, I didn’t want it to end. Which look above was your favorite?
I know this was no New York Fashion week, but I believe this was amazing for St. Louis to put the spotlight on local, amazing talent. I loved the experience and can’t wait to attend more fashion shows in the future!
I haven’t worn this bad boy since I graduated back in 2014, what a shame. It’s a shame because I love this dress, so much. It’s some of the best feeling material I’ve ever worn and best of all, it’s comfortable. Can you tell I love all things comfortable? It seems all I ever talk about is comfort and pockets, they are the key to my heart.
When heading to work, it’s okay to spice it up and wear items that make you feel great about yourself! When you look good, you feel good. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone!
I mean, what more do you want out of a shirt dress? I think a cute little denim shirt dress should be a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. This is something I wear in the fall, spring, and summer. A good buy are items that you can wear year round and never go out of style. The only downside about this dress is that it gets wrinkly when you sit down as you see in the photos above. Nothing and no one is perfect though, so I can deal.
Happy Thursday, friends! Hope you’re gearing up for a great weekend.
Hey Friends! Sorry I haven’t been present lately. I’ve been super busy trying to get my life together and was on vacation all last week, so I wasn’t able to blog much.
Any who, I am back! I love this dress. I just got it a few weeks ago from T.J. Maxx and it’s C. Wonder. They no longer have their e-commerce store, but have a stand alone location in New York for those in that area. You want to know the best part about this dress? It has pockets! I am telling you, anything that has pockets, I will probably buy. And let’s be real, stripes come before everything, so you knew I would snag it regardless.
Another plus about this dress is it can transition to fall with tights and boots underneath. Finding all purpose items are the best additions to your closet because you’re really getting more bang for your buck.
Did you think I was going to cover a whole spread of the wedding on my last blog post and not talk about what to wear? You know better.
When it comes to wedding attire, this is your time to shine. Why? Because it’s pretty much a photo shoot. Who shows up to a photo shoot looking crazy? I say that because everyone’s taking photos and most importantly, there are professional photographers following your every move! Some of the best, candid, professional photos happen at weddings, so it’s important to dress to impress (don’t upstage the bride though, that’s a no no).
I am by no means saying you can’t pull an old gem out from the closet, but it needs to be a strong, perfect, flawless, old gem (I’m pretending a piece of clothing is diamond if you didn’t catch my drift). I like to stay away from colors close to the overall wedding theme and wedding party. And we all know not to commit the cardinal sin of wearing white, ivory, cream, etc. This should be common sense but we all know common sense isn’t so common. Whatever you do, stay true to your style and make sure you’re comfortable, because you’ll dance the night away for several hours.
I am obsessed with this dress, mainly because the back is amazing! It’s long enough to be appropriate for a classy wedding, yet sassy in the back to stand out from the masses. I actually own nothing yellow and it’s my moms favorite color, so she told me to buy it. Yes, I still do what my mother says (I still live under her roof so you understand my position). The reason I love LuLu’s so much is that they are well-priced, and fit true to size. If you order a medium, you will get a medium. You would be shocked by the trouble I have finding dresses and other items. With that being said, when I find a retailer or brand that fits me right, I am loyal forever.
Love is in the air, so go out there and make everyone love your outfit!
Brace yourselves, this is a long one! But really, I know you all wanted a play-by-play of a McCarter wedding anyway, so take notes. As if Libby’s wedding wasn’t amazing, Kat’s was absolutely gorgeous as well! Libby is my best friend since sixth grade and Kat is her cool older sister (telling you this because I shouldn’t assume you know my life).
The reality is, I won’t get married anytime soon. With that being said, I find it important to take notes on others weddings. So by the time I get married in ten years, it will be perfect by then, right?
Kat and Tony have dated for around 12 years, so this was literally one of the most anticipated moments in everyone’s lives. I won’t lie, when I saw the beautiful invitation come in the mail, I did a happy dance because I made the cut (didn’t even know I was in the running). Any who, Lindsey (Libby’s sorority sister from Denver University) stayed with me all weekend, which was super exciting! We stopped by the McCarter residence Friday evening to mingle before the wedding was to happen Saturday evening.
Right when we walked into the wedding venue, we were offered champagne (I like to call it ‘champs’). For me, that definitely set the tone that this was 100% going to be a full-fledged McCarter function (that means I knew guests would be well taken care of from every aspect all night).
It was great seeing Kat and Tony’s dog Walker, isn’t he cute? And if you couldn’t tell, this is a cardboard cut out. The only reason I figured that out was because Walker normally attacks me with love, but not today.
One of my favorite parts of this entire wedding was the small customized touches on EVERYTHING! Are you ready, because the fun starts…NOW!
Wright is the perfect last name for funny and cute little statements on napkins, as you will see below.
(I stole the photo below from the designers Instagram, so here’s her credit: Lauren Burns).
As if the napkins weren’t enough, I almost died when I saw the chairs. I hope they keep some of them, don’t know where they would put them, but they’re adorable!
That awkward moment when you thought I was done, but it’s still going. These gorgeous custom water colored W paintings were on every bar. Every bar, you ask? Yes, every bar because there were four. So if you were thirsty, that was your own fault because there were literally drinks everywhere (he didn’t want to be in the photo, but I made him).
Finally, the chair of all chairs. I mean, what more do you want people?
Finally after taking in the pure beauty of everything, it was time to sit down for the ceremony. The programs were so cute and I loved that they were on fans, God knows we needed them. St. Louis is extremely hot and humid in the summer for those who aren’t aware.
Dudley (the best dad ever) walked Kat down the aisle to say “I do” to the man of her dreams. Don’t they look great?
You’ll have the search the #feelssowright hashtag for more photos, especially of the bridesmaids. They wore three different colors of pink/purple with different styles of long dresses. The ten of them looked amazing (yes, ten. Kat has a ton of friends)!
It was a pretty quick ceremony, but that’s how everyone likes it now-a-days. No need to spend an hour at the altar, we know why they’re here.
After Kat said yes to spending the rest of her life with Tony, cocktail hour ensued. I took that time to take some photos and walk around a bit mingling with old friends, teachers, and coaches!
During the reception, Kat and Tony cut the cake. This is one of the first times I actually remembered to eat the cake, and man was it good. I think it was poppy-seed or something of that nature, not sure.
Lemon drop shots? Yes, please!
Kat and her parents both went to the University of Missouri – Columbia, so of course Mizzou had to be represented, somewhere!
Finally, it was time to sit down for some dinner. I loved the table settings, but that’s because I love pink and green (obviously).
Isn’t the head table gorgeous? Really loving the bright-colored theme they went with. I found it to be unique and different from anything I’ve ever seen (because I’ve been to so many weddings – I’m being sarcastic).
What was on the menu, you ask?Details listed below. And no need to ask how the food was, because it was great!
3rd course not pictured due to me dancing and eating at the same time. I only have so many hands, guys. But, it was amazing!
I finally got a photo with the beautiful bride! She was so happy and the entire wedding party honestly looked phenomenal. I’m mad I didn’t get a photo of her mother and mother in-law because they looked like models, it was insane.
We ended the night in total celebration, dancing for hours and enjoying everyone’s company. Yes, I wore flip flops because those six inch wedges became too much. Besides, they were provided for all the women in the bathroom, so I wasn’t alone.
I didn’t expect anything less from Kat and Tony’s wedding. Everyone had a great time and it was beautifully put together. I wish them many years of happiness and love! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for them, I know it will be great. I’m so blessed and happy to have them in my life and to see their relationship grow over the years.
This romper is SO COMFY! The best part is the shorts are pretty long. I rarely wear rompers anymore because they’re so short now-a-days (I assume they think I’m 5’2). And I just lied, the best part isn’t the length, it’s the fact that POCKETS are ready and available! I think I just really love the feeling of being able to stick my hands in my pockets if I want. I never have anything in them besides my phone and the occasional lip gloss, but it’s nice to have them as an option.
Off topic but, who is ready for #TGIT to finally return on ABC? My Thursdays are actually pretty boring because there’s never anything on. Technically that’s a good thing because it allows me to get things done to prepare for the weekend! Regardless, I hope you have a beautiful Thursday evening, the weekend is near!
I went to my best friend Kelly’s family bed and breakfast this weekend and it’s absolutely gorgeous! Tara Point opened in 1990 by her grandparents and when they passed, her mom took over in 2008. Aren’t these views just to die? Alison (Kelly’s mom) was gracious enough to let me come up and take a few photos. These pictures don’t even do the place justice, they have one of the best sunset views in America. Tara Point overlooks the Mississippi and Illinois river filled with boats around this time of year. The most unique part is that you see where the Missouri and Illinois river meet when standing on the back porch. This is the perfect small weekend getaway because it’s quiet and best of all, relaxing!
You would be surprised how many amazing things you can do in Grafton, Illinois. Zip lining, visit ice cream shops and bars, and best of all there are a few wineries to try. Raging Rivers is down the road, Eckert’s Farm around the corner for apple and peach picking, eagle hot spots, and more!
I am obsessed with this pink dress. It’s an old gem that’s been hidden in my closet and I’ve only worn it once, don’t ask me why. Hot pink has always been a favorite of mine, especially around this time of year. I was going to wear it to a wedding this weekend, but decided not to because I don’t want to accidentally match the bridal party.
I hope you decide to take a trip to Grafton, especially Tara Point! You won’t regret it
It’s hot outside, just like this dress. Once again, it’s an oldie but a goodie. Wore it once for Fourth of July last year and haven’t worn it since, until today. It feels great on and the low scoop back is my favorite. If you can’t tell, I love showing my back and legs. Anything with a fun or low back, I love. I’ve had a lot of fun playing dress up in my closet and it’s definitely helped me save money with my big end of the year trip coming up!
Always remember, be yourself and wear what makes you happy. You can be whoever you want when you wear clothes that make you feel confident. My outfits depict my mood and let me transition into different characters if I so choose.
Don’t be mad at me, but I can’t remember where I bought this jumper. I got it while on spring break two years ago in New Orléans at a random boutique before I started blogging. I promise, I now pay very close attention to where I purchase all my items, so it won’t happen again, scouts honor. But, what I can tell you is that it’s made by the brand ‘Lush‘. They outsource their items to most boutiques, Nordstrom, and more!
But you want to know what’s even more horrific than me forgetting the name of the boutique? The fact that I’ve only worn this jumper once! I told you guys, I am really feeling this whole shopping in my closet thing and I must say, it’s working out quite well. Why do we buy things to only wear them once? Probably because some items are so unique, we only want to be seen in them once a year. We all have our own reasons, but this is definitely the main source for me.
I’m sure you think I am beating this topic to death but it’s something to think about.
One more day until the weekend people, you can do this!
Don’t I look like Alice from Alice in Wonderland? That’s how I feel with this cute little dress and pearls. Sorry I didn’t tag the pearls, these are all super old and I can’t even begin to think of where they are all from. And, pearls are extremely easy to find. Anyways, I highly doubt Alice wore converse, I think she had on Keds. I have a TON of stuff in my closet that I don’t wear nearly enough. With that being said, I decided to bring them back to life and almost ‘reinvent them’. So I’m apologizing ahead of time because most of these items are extremely old and probably aren’t online or in store anymore. But no fear, I’ll tag similar options that you can buy and will love, promise. When I ‘don’t have anything to wear’, my first instinct is to buy something new. My new thing is to shop in my closet and figure out a way to make it look new. I don’t know if I’m failing or succeeding at this, so I’ll let you guys be the judge.
This dress – so old. You know it’s old because it’s from Abercrombie & Fitch. Not at all implying that’s a bad thing, I just don’t shop there as often as I used to. BUT, they still have great stuff and have kind of re-branded themselves so their clothes don’t scream I’m as preppy as they come. Anyways, I used to work at Abercrombie back in the day (don’t judge). When I did, I had the privilege of “modeling” (haha) in front of the store during holidays for a few hours. During these hours, I was judged hardcore, mainly by the moms – it was quite entertaining. Nevertheless, I actually still really like this dress although I’ve had it since high school. Don’t ask me how I still fit in my high school clothes, because I don’t know either. But one of the perks of doing this little side hustle was scoring free clothes .
Ok, I’m done rambling. I am really saying all of this to reiterate that you don’t have to always buy new clothes. My new thing is only buying new items when it’s for an event like a wedding or something. You should try it! Your wallet and closet will thank you.
First of all, I am curious to know if you all find these kind of posts interesting, because if you don’t, I’ll stop making them. I just find when I have these sort of conversations with friends in person and give them life advice, they respond positively. So, I want to share the love, but if you don’t want it, let a sister know.
LEARNING TO SAY NO! I know this sounds obvious, but it’s not. When I say learning to say no, I mean – if you don’t really want to do it, you don’t have the money, it’s not something your interested in, SAY NO! I am kind of a ‘yes woman‘, but it’s because I love to live in the moment and memories mean more to me than anything (I love reminiscing on good times).
Saying no is the hardest thing sometimes, because we fear we are hurting someones feelings. But at the end of the day, we have to do what’s best for ourselves. For instance, I was invited to Vegas in October. And anyone who knows me knows, I LOVE AND LIVE FOR VEGAS! However, I have already taken almost ten trips this year, which becomes quite expensive. Sadly, I had to say no because I know I don’t have the paid time off at work or money. Trust me when I say I didn’t want to say no, but I had to for the greater good of my wallet.
Another example – I don’t own many cards for retail stores but I do have a Nordstrom debit card. Why you ask? Because I am extremely loyal to them AND their customer service is THE BEST, no seriously. Anyways, with that being said, card members are granted early access to their Anniversary Sale. They had a ton of amazing fall items that I am sure I will need/want in a few months, but I knew I didn’t have a REAL need in this very moment. So, I said no. It was so terribly hard walking away from an on sale North Face vest to add to my collection, but it didn’t matter. To me, it’s still 90 degrees outside, so I can’t justify buying those items right now, although they are on sale. I still have things to do within the next week or month that I need to worry about! (I know ‘true’ fashionistas have all the latest & greatest retail items a few months before the seasons really starts, which is cool. But, I really don’t care that much. I buy my fall items when everyone else does – in September/October.)
I think you see where I am going with this. There are a lot of things in life that will tempt you to say yes, when you know you need to say no. What helps me is thinking about how happy my bank account will be later in the process . Life is about moments not monetary items, remember that.
Sorry for the water in the background of some of the photos, we’ve gotten a lot of rain this year in St. Louis. But, that won’t stop Work Day Wednesday from happening! This is one of my favorite tops that I found at Nordstrom Rack earlier this year and it was on sale, yay! What I love even more than this top, are these pants. They are from Express and I own them in both black and white. For some crazy reason, I feel like they took them offline because I can’t find them and that makes me very sad. Not only are they high-waist, but they’re comfortable, ankle cut, and have a hidden zipper on the side. If they put them back online, I’ll be sure to let you know.
When working in a business setting, it’s important to find staples that match everything. My biggest piece of advice is buying neutrals so you have larger clothing combinations. The more color you add, the harder it will be to find pants or a top to match. When I say neutrals, I mean black, white, gray, khaki, cream, etc.
Whatever you wear, walk into that office with confidence knowing that you will get the job done! Happy hump day, everyone.
WELCOME TO NASHVILLE! Or, as some call it, NashVegas! You know why they call it NashVegas? I think because it’s apparently the second most popular city for bachelorette parties next to Las Vegas, but who knows!
Last year I attended a bachelorette party in Nashville, so naturally there was some overlap. But, we had a great time! We left St. Louis early in the morning and headed straight to our hotel to get ready because we had a dinner plans at 5pm. We went to a place called Tin Roof. It was right next to the Pedal Tavern and it was simple and quick enough for what we needed.
After that, we headed to the Pedal Tavern next door. Below is the bride to be and I.
If you’re not familiar with what a Pedal Tavern is, it’s ultimately a big party on multiple bikes holstered up to a bar. Sounds amazing, right? Well, it is. Legally drinking while riding a community bike, what more do you want people? We rode around stopping at random bars enjoying their special ‘Pedal Tavern drink specials’. Sadly, we were only able to ride for about forty five minutes before they kicked us off due to random thunder storms. The Nashville Pedal Tavern was so gracious to give us half the money back since we were only on it for half the time, they run a great business down there.
We waited for the storms to stop (after they continued on and off a few times for an hour or so) and the party continued downtown on Broadway. We went to a bar that had a bull, so Kirsten (the bachelorette) and I gave it a try. Sorry I don’t have any photos, it was way too dark for all of that. All in all, we had a good time that night!
We woke up bright and early for complimentary breakfast at our hotel. Not going to lie, the waffles were definitely the best part although we were confused about the whole Texas thing, considering we were in Nashville. Apparently, there is Texas paraphernalia in all the Homewood Suites across the country because that’s where the CEO is from. I think that’s actually really cool.
After breakfast, we headed up to Kirsten’s room for some laughs and the mimosa bar. I think it’s safe to say everyone loves a good mimosa in the morning. They were so tasty.
After mimosas, some decided to do a Grand Ole’ Opry tour while others hit the brewery. I opted for the brewery because I knew that was Kirsten’s thing and it is something I don’t get to indulge in that often. AND, honestly, I am not really a huge country music fan at all, so the history doesn’t interest me as much as it would others.
We went to a place called Fat Bottom Brewery, it was so cute. Luckily, it wasn’t super busy, so it ended up working for our large group. I really couldn’t decide if I wanted a few mini plates or a burger. But, we all know I chose a burger once I found out it’s their “thing”. The burger was good, just a bit undercooked for my liking. You’re probably wondering why I didn’t send it back. Well, they were under-staffed, I didn’t want to hassle our waitress, and I was really hungry. I definitely will need to try more burgers from Nashville in the future to see what they’re about.
Huge shout out to the bachelorette for taking my photos, she’s the real MVP!
In addition to my burger obsession, I’ve been on a flight kick as well. I love tasting different things and I allowing some variety. I won’t lie, I am not a huge IPA or dark brew fan, so that fact was solidified after this tasting. For me, light beers are the way to go.
After lunch, we headed to home to prepare for Kirsten’s bridal shower. I think it’s really important to know your future bride and her style of lingerie before making any serious purchases. I was the only one who bought her cute, regular looking pajamas (shorts and tank top from Nordstrom), because I honestly wanted her to have something practical for everyday. You all know by now, I always make my own rules which normally means breaking them. Luckily, Kirsten loved what I got her and she didn’t return it! As a matter of fact, she text me the other night saying she was wearing them and that they were extremely comfortable – mission accomplished.
After the shower, we took a few photos (as seen above) and headed to dinner. We went to a place called Cabana and I must say, I am impressed. Once again, I decided to order flights, but this time they were Grey Goose. Aren’t they cute?
Random Fact: I ordered a dress from Lulu’s for this weekend (it was to die) but of course it didn’t come in time (reasons why I hate UPS). So, I literally ran around the Galleria for an hour trying to find something last-minute. Francesca’s saved the day and I decided to just spruce it up by overdoing it on the gold jewelry. My biggest tip when this happens – when in doubt, accessorize. You would be surprised how you can turn around a simple outfit with good accessories.
Back to the food, this lobster mac CHANGED MY LIFE. No seriously, it did. It is hands down the best mac and cheese I’ve ever had in my entire life. If I could eat it every day, I would. Needless to say, dinner was great and everyone was satisfied.
Once we finished dinner, we headed to the bars around the Vanderbilt campus. All in all, we had a great weekend and I think Kirsten really enjoyed herself. It was nice meeting her college friends and catching up with my Creve Coeur gal pals. Bachelorette parties are always such a great time and I was happy to visit and do new things in Nashville. Can’t wait for the wedding later on this year!
My biggest piece of advice for bachelorette party goers is that you should do whatever you can to make sure the bride-to-be has the time of her life. It’s the one weekend that everything is about her and her happiness. But, make sure you have fun at the same time because you didn’t spend all of this money not to enjoy yourself! Do activities that appeal to the bride but also the group – this makes for an amazing weekend. A well planned trip, is a happy trip – that’s what I always say
So, I know I say everything is my favorite. But, that’s because it is! First of all, I hate shorts because stores apparently refuse to make them the right way for tall, thin, gals like me (the struggle). But, I am OBSESSED with these shorts. They are hands down my favorite shorts of this summer. Aren’t the scallops the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen? AND, they are high-waist. I love pretty much anything with a high-waist that I can pair a white crop top with. I am 100% a repeat offender and I own it. I love high-waist because it pretty much looks great on every body type since it hits at one of the most flattering areas on a woman’s body. Pitaya doesn’t have them online, but I tagged the exact pair here and above.
It’s crazy because when I was younger, I hated gold jewelry. Now, that’s all I really wear. My my how times change. If you have a Pitaya in your city, I highly suggest stopping by their boutique because they have new arrivals every week and sell out quick. I literally prayed when I went into the dressing room that these shorts would fit because I couldn’t live without them (the elastic in the back was my saving grace).
I just wanted to give Pitaya a HUGE shout out and thank you for allowing me to continue working with them. They are truly and 100% my favorite St. Louis boutique (I am not just saying that, I swear). I’ve shopped at their Delmar Looplocation since I was in high school and it’s been my go to spot for over 7 years – I am obviously very loyal. It is always refreshing and such a blessing to find a brand/store that believes in you as much as you do them, so THANK YOU PITAYA! Vivie ‘s you!
Stayed tuned for my Nashville recap later in the week! They had some of the best food I’ve ever had and the city is the cutest. AND apparently it’s the Bachelorette capital of the U.S. next to Vegas, who knew?
This post is sponsored by Pitaya and all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands who support Vivie’s Retail Diary.
You know the phrase, “Good things come those who wait”? This is the true definition of this dress! I saw it a few months ago on Zara, but couldn’t think of where I would wear it and it was too expensive. If you’ve read my previous posts, you know I don’t buy anything unless I have a purpose for it. I needed a black dress for the bachelorette party I’m attending tomorrow and decided to look on Zara and realized everything was on sale! The gorgeous quilted white dress immediately went in my shopping cart and that was that! And you know, I love pieces that I can wear to church, work, and out on the town. AND it’s extremely comfortable, I could take a nap in it (but I won’t).
My weekend starts today because I’m headed to Nashville for a friends bachelorette party this weekend! I went to another bachelorette party there last year, so I’m hoping this year is a little different so there will be some versatility. You can follow my adventures on snapchat (viviankj) and Instagram!
FINALLY recapping my Atlanta trip from a few weeks ago! Sorry it took so long. As most of you know, I work full-time and we are in busy season (work first, play later). So, let’s get to it!
One of my close friends Amorkor turned 23 near the end of June, so she wanted to celebrate by taking a girls trip to Atlanta. Now, she’s a frequent Atlanta traveler, so this girl knows what she’s doing in this city. However, it was nice knowing she wanted to have different experiences this time since she was traveling with a different group of girls. Instead of booking a hotel, we decided to stay at an AirBnB. If you don’t know what that is,it’s a place where guests can book spaces from hosts, connecting people who have space to spare with those who are looking for a place to stay for days, weeks, or even months. Since booking through them, I’ve pretty much decided that I’ll never stay anywhere else. It’s the same cost if not less than a hotel and you get the full amenities of staying in a house. Besides the house being absolutely gorgeous, the best part was that there was room for everyone to spread out and be comfortable. One of my biggest pet peeves is five girl staying in one hotel room using one bathroom, it’s horrible. If it’s in my control, I won’t ever do that again. Here is a quick little view of the house we rented in Cabbagetown right outside of Downtown, Atlanta. It had a fountain, three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, upstairs attached balcony, outdoor space, I mean it was PERFECT!
But, enough about the house. Cabbagetown is absolutely amazing and the cutest little town I’ve ever seen. There were graffiti murals everywhere, I was totally obsessed. Especially considering it was literally around every corner we turned. Totally different scene than what I get here in St. Louis. That’s what I look for when I vacation, being able to experience a completely different environment than what I get on a daily basis. These are the main murals I got the change to photograph, they are breath-taking and extremely impressive.
This was one of my favorites, obviously.
After finally getting settled into our weekend home, we decided to get lunch. Another great thing I love about Cabbagetown is that so many activities are in walking distance. Yet another thing I don’t get living in the suburbs of St. Louis, I have to drive EVERYWHERE. Unless I want to randomly walk to the Taco Bell up the street from my house, but I don’t eat fast food, so that’s a bust. We walked to a place called Six Feet Under. Man was the food GREAT! I ordered the blackened shrimp, crawfish, catfish taco combo platter. As you can tell below, it was delicious. I love trying different things from different places, so it was really a treat. Also, we got to eat on their roof top balcony which was awesome.
After lunch, we walked home and got ready for the night. My best friend Brittany arrived a few hours later and we soon left for the Juicy J concert! The horrible part about snapchat is that you take so many photos on there, you either forget to save them down or take actual pictures using your camera – bummer. BUT, it was so amazing. The best part was that we were front row and I caught his towel, accidentally. I know that sounds like a lie, but it’s true. You can even ask Amorkor. After that, we went to a bars in Edgewood which I’m obsessed with. I love rap music, especially underground artists, so that’s one of my favorite parts about Atlanta – discovering new music. The vibes I got in Edgewood are like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Everyone was dancing, having a great time, and just overall enjoying life – that’s an amazing time in my book. After a night out and long walk back to our house, we decided to call it a night.
Friday was my favorite day of the entire trip by far. One thing that I love about my friend Amorkor is that she’s a planner, like me. When someone else invites me on a trip, I really try and go with the flow because it’s about them, not me. Some trips I’ve attended are more go with the flow and relaxed, which is really nice. But honestly, I really love a well thought out, jam-packed, busy trip, with tons of activities and new experiences. Amorkor did just that, that’s why I had such an amazing time.
She asked us ahead of time if we would be interested in climbing Stone Mountain. I honestly had never heard of it but it looked like something different and fun. Besides, anything outdoors and athletic, I will ALWAYS say yes to. Of course and in typical fashion, we were lost the first 30 minutes of being there, but we finally found our way. Crazy thing is that, I didn’t expect the mountain to literally be 100% stone, and it was (as seen below). It was probably one of the most difficult but fun things I’ve ever done in my entire life.
Amorkor and I sweaty, with her fish eye camera lens, climbing up Stone Mountain.
The best most intense part of the mountain, I couldn’t capture because it was literally on a complete almost 180 degree incline (okay, it wasn’t literally 180 degree, but it sure as hell felt like it). If you fell, there was no one and nothing that could help you, because the entire mountain is rock. I consider myself to be pretty in shape and it was difficult for me to get up there. On top of that, there was massive elevation, hot temperatures, and humongous rocks to climb over.
But, reaching the top, was the best feeling EVER. The views were to die for. If I lived in Atlanta, I would be on this mountain every weekend. The trail we did was only a mile but it honestly felt like 5. To think we were considering doing the 5 mile course, that obviously wouldn’t have worked.
After taking the lift down the mountain, we decided to get something to eat. We went to a Tapas bar called Twist in Buckhead. The food was amazing, once again. Below is a photo of the scallops I ordered, they were amazing and the sauce was awesome. The lighting in the restaurant was really dark so the other food photos weren’t that good. However, we all got different tapas and shared them, best idea ever.
After lunch, we went home to shower and get ready for our wine stroll in Tudor Square. What this consisted of was us going to different establishments in Tudor Square, shopping their stores or boutiques, and tasting different wines while looking around. It was very relaxing and definitely something different to do .
One thing I would suggest that I don’t think I do enough of is utilizing Eventbrite and Groupon. I use Groupon all the time, but not so much when traveling outside of St. Louis. Eventbrite is where we bought our tickets for the wine stroll and the pool party. Amorkor is the one who threw the ideas out there for these events and I am so happy she did. I will definitely use these for my next trips!
After the wine stroll, we went home to freshen up and get ready for a night out on the town. We had friends over at our place and got ready to head downtown.
It was a sad day because it was Brittany’s last day before she had to head back to Chicago. But a happy day for Amorkor because her friend Nicole was coming from St. Louis. We woke up with the intention of getting henna tattoos, but that ended up falling through. No fear, we still had a full day ahead, so we got coffee and went into a few thrift stores. You would be shocked to know that I didn’t buy anything the entire weekend besides a hand-made wire ring from a random man off the street. All of this occurred in an area called Little 5 Points. Once again, there was a ton of graffiti murals everywhere and I loved it!
After Little 5 Points, we got a quick bite at a pizza place, went back to the house to relax a little, then headed to the pool party.
We bought tickets through Evenbrite once again for the rooftop pool party at the W. It had rained on and off all day, so there weren’t a TON of people at the pool party. But, that made it feel like our own private pool, which I had no complaints about! All in all, we had a great time.
We ended the night by going home, having some drinks back at the house with some friends, and a night out on the town. I was so sad that the weekend was over because I had such a great time! This trip definitely taught me that I need to continue being Type A and planning trips ahead of time, because we all know it’s hard for me to go with the flow. The trip wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for Amorkor pretty much planning every detail from the rental car, AirBnB, activities, and so on. Out of all the trips I’ve done, this one was definitely on my Top 3 List. In my opinion, a good trip consists of the people, atmosphere, activities, and overall positive vibes – this trip had it all!
