I am super excited to finally post this new series – #WDW aka Work Day Wednesday.  Who needs a #WCW – Woman Crush Wednesday – when you can have a #WDW!? I really wanted to focus on work wear because I know a lot of my readers work full-time in corporate/business settings. Even if you aren’t required to wear business casual, there will ALWAYS be a time when you will need to dress in such a way.

One of the main reasons why this series is so important to me is because I always knew I wanted to work in business and be a business woman. With that, my mother made sure I dressed appropriately when it came to church, interviews, internships, jobs, etc. My moms theory was that people could say whatever they wanted about Vivian Johnson good or bad, but they could never say my clothes didn’t look nice or they were inappropriate for the occasion. Now, I am not saying that I am the best dressed in the office by any means, but I know the difference between casual and business casual (who ever disagrees, speak now or forever hold your peace).

Another reason this is important is because the way you dress says a lot about you. Your clothes can imply that you can afford to buy expensive things, you just rolled out of bed, you take your job seriously, the list goes on and on. I have seen some of the CRAZIEST outfits at work and I question how no one has managed to tell them that their outfit isn’t appropriate. I mean, I can’t talk because I obviously haven’t told them. But, they aren’t on my team, therefore it’s not my place. If I am ever unsure or questioning what is or is not okay to wear to work, I first ask my mom. After asking her, I ask my boss. I am a firm believer that your work wardrobe is not only a reflection of you, but your boss. When you look bad, you make your boss and possibly your team look bad as well.

I know most people dread buying work attire and they think it’s expensive. Guess what, you work almost EVERY DAY. So why not spend a little extra money on something that is literally an investment in your future.  If you’re having issues figuring out the best places to buy work clothes or how to put everyday business causal outfits together, fear not – Vivie’s Retail Diary #WDW is here! For starters, the outfit I posted above is a simple, COMFORTABLE, business causal outfit anyone can pull off. Funny thing is that my boss and I both own this Banana Republic sweater, hers is in black. These ultra skinny work pants are a staple for me because they are once again, comfortable, AND I can tuck these into my boots when it’s cold out. If you don’t own a pair of black pumps, I honestly don’t know what you’re doing. These are a MUST HAVE in every young working woman’s wardrobe. You can literally find these anywhere and at any price. Lastly, you need a watch. Even if you buy a watch from Target or Claire’s, it doesn’t matter. In this generation, most believe in using their cell phone to tell the time. I disagree. What will you do if you lose your phone or it breaks: just not show up, be late, depend on other people? Therefore, I almost ALWAYS wear a watch. Plus, it helps you arrive early and on time for meetings and other obligations.

There is more to come with my #WDW series along with fashion advice for the everyday working woman, so stay tuned! If you have any questions or need advice, feel free to reach out in the comments.

Remember: Dress the way you want to be addressed.
