It’s that time of the year again – tax season. I promise I am going to keep this brief because taxes aren’t my favorite topic and I am not that knowledgable on the subject besides the basics. Whether you use Turbo Tax, H&R Block, or a family friend, PLEASE GET YOUR TAXES DONE. Most importantly, make sure that whoever does them knows what they’re doing and that they will help ‘get your billions back‘ like H&R block says.
Did you know that there are TONS of deductions that you could be missing out on when filing taxes? Here is a link I came across a few months ago on Yahoo on the most overlooked deductions, I highly suggest you read it.
Besides telling you to physically do your taxes, my main purpose of this post is to tell you to find someone who knows what they’re doing. One year, I went to a ‘tax expert’ and told him that I needed to file taxes in two states. I am not a tax professional, so I didn’t question his knowledge or ability to complete his job accurately. In the end, he didn’t properly file my taxes and I ended up worse off than how I came. It was horrible and I had to deal with repercussions for a couple of years down the line until it finally ended (I think it’s over – don’t jinx me)!
Now that that’s in the past, I pay closer attention and ask a TON of questions when getting my taxes done. Once I gain more consistency in my incoming and outgoing cash flow, I plan to do them myself. Who better to trust than Vivie, right? However, no matter how much I read and try to educate myself, I feel like it is impossible to know all there is about taxes, so I will leave it to the professionals. Most importantly, don’t wait until the last-minute. Filing your taxes could cause you to miss out on money that you could be investing, saving, paying off debt, etc. Taxes suck, I know. But, it is necessary.
I promise that my monthly #MMM will continue to bring you relevant content into helping you build a successful financial future. If you missed January’s post, you can read it here. I am not going to lie, I am REALLY excited about the topics soon to come on the blog. I’ll give you a hint and tell you that March’s #MMM has to do with my favorite topic, shopping!
